Acts 27:41 - The Rock To Stand On
Step 1: Pray. Select.
I heard a sermon over the weekend on Acts, and for some reason, the Holy Spirit was bringing a particular part back to my remembrance this morning from Acts 27:41. The words "two seas" were running rampant through my mind.
This is where I began my prayer time today, friends. Let's begin.
Step 2: Write. Read. Circle
Acts 27:41 But striking a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the prow stuck fast and remained immovable, but the stern was being broken up by the violence of the waves.
After reading the scripture three times, the following words stood out amongst the others:
Striking
Where Two Seas Met
Aground
Struck Fast
Immovable
By The Waves
Step 3: Re-Write
With a focus on the words that stood out, here is the personalized sentence(s) placed upon my heart:
Jennifer, striking where two seas met, aground, struck fast, immovable by the waves.
Step 4: Visualize
Holy Spirit is prompting me to understand that even though a circumstance or situation may look tumultuous, he is telling me to move forward without doubt and plant myself between the two seas.
I picture the waves crashing together from both sides, but he assures me that where the LORD tells me to strike down and land, His promise is there.
I feel a sense of urgency, as if not to question the path or the place I need to metaphorically put my flag in the ground. When I picture rough black waters and powerful waves crashing into each other, it looks scary to plant my feet in the middle of the chaos, but again, he assures me there is a rock for me to stand on that I cannot see from where I am now. It lies just beneath the surface. It is there.
I find myself overwhelmed with emotion at the security God is giving me this morning. He is telling me to stop looking for the higher ground to land on because everything I am looking for is right under my feet.
He is showing me that if I shift my perspective, the waves are not my enemy but rather a beacon of hope, calling me to land in an unlikely place that I would never know is there. This place is the rock that lays beneath the water's surface, sturdy and ready to build and thrive upon as a brand new, unclaimed foundation. This place has been waiting for the right time to be claimed.
A question arises I need to ask the Holy Spirit. So, I continue to Step 5.
Step 5: Ask. Seek
The words that came to mind were:
Holy Spirit, how long will I have to be exposed to the waves before building a shelter on this rock?
Step 6: Hear. Write. Receive
Here is the answer I received:
"This place already has built-in safety. You are building on a rock, so the foundation is already here. It had withstood the turbulent waters for an endless time before you received the revelation it even existed today. It calls to you since you cannot see it. Deep down, you know it is there because you are hearing it before seeing it, which is the way of your Father. He is asking you to step off the boat with faith like Peter. Remember, He controls the elements and can speak to the wind, calming the waves and raining down bread from heaven, as he told Moses in Exodus 16:4. Don't be afraid. Say, 'Yes,' then run towards the rock you cannot see, marked by the waves crashing together, rejoicing in the blessing that lies beneath the surface of the water. This place is immovable and steadfast and has been waiting for you to claim it in a time such as this. Keep driving towards the rock, and when you get closer, you will see the waves carry you and place you on your rightful land and home built by the LORD."
Next, the Holy Spirit brought to mind the song "Firm Foundation (He Won't)," written by Codey Carnes, Chandler Moore, and Austin Davis. Specifically, the following lyrics are repeating in my mind:
------
Christ is my firm foundation
The rock on which I stand
When everything around me is shaken
I've never been more glad
That I put my faith in Jesus
'Cause He's never let me down
He's faithful through generations
So why would He fail now?
He won't
------
Rain came, wind blew
But my house was built on You
I'm safe with You
I'm gonna make it through
I feel this is the perfect time to pray upon this encouraging message from the Holy Spirit today.
Let's move to Step 7!
Step 7: Pray. Confirm
Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of my LORD and Savior, Jesus.
Thank you for your promises and for showing me I can faithfully build wherever you call me, no matter how rough the conditions may look. I will stand firm on your foundation because you said it before I saw it, and I know your voice. I am safe with you, so I will go boldly into the ocean, guided to the place signaled by the waves. I trust you have something there waiting for me just beneath the surface. You have kept this rock beneath the surface for my protection, and it will only be revealed to me at an ordained time of my arrival through the two seas. Thank you for being a good father and always providing more than what I need ahead and before I can see.
I seal this prayer with the blood and mighty name of Jesus - Amen!
