Numbers 30:2 - Oaths and Vows

Step 1: Pray. Select.

Today’s prayer time started off a little unconventionally. I thought I was led in one direction, but then the Holy Spirit took me to a verse that was not on my path at all. In fact, he directed me to a book neighboring the one I initially thought I would read this morning, Numbers.

In truth and honor of the process, I put aside preconceived notions and committed to the Holy Spirit’s direction, leading me to Numbers 30:2 today. Onward, we go to Step 2!

Step 2: Write. Read. Circle

Numbers 30:2 If a man makes a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

After reading the scripture three times, the following words stood out amongst the others:

  • Vow

  • An Oath

  • Do According

  • To All That Proceeds Out Of His Mouth

Step 3: Re-Write

With a focus on the words that stood out, here is the personalized sentence placed upon my heart. Don’t forget, if you are doing this alongside me today, to add your name to your unique sentence:

  • Jennifer, vow an oath, do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

Step 4: Visualize

This is strange. I am a bit stumped. As I meditate on the words the Holy Spirit gave me this morning, the message is clear, but no visual comes to mind. All I can say is I must promise to do everything my Heavenly Father tells you to do today. Do everything that proceeds out of his mouth. Vow to do it!

I must say, I am excited to hear what he has to say today, but a bit nervous at the same time. But Holy Spirit quickly reminds me that my Father would never do anything to hurt me, and knows what is best for me, so just stay in obedience and everything will work out according to His perfect will.

In honor of the instruction I have received, I am not going to complicate things this morning. I am going straight to Step 5 since I have a question.

Step 5: Ask. Seek

The words that came to mind were:

  • Holy Spirit, I do not fully understand what lies ahead, but please speak to me, for your servant is listening.

Step 6: Hear. Write. Receive

Here is the answer I received:

“Whatever commitments you have made for the day, keep them at all costs. Do not sway to the right or to the left. Have mercy over others and mercy on your soul. Honor your commitments. Love and cherish one another. Be kind, going in and going out. And most of all, be a representation of your Heavenly Father’s commitments. As he keeps his commitments and statutes to you, so shall you keep to others.”

He continued…

“What is the cost of keeping a promise, you ask? It depends on the sacrifice it requires. Today is a day of sacrificial commitment and atonement for the things given. Give, and it will be given unto you, pressed down, shaken together, running over. Do not be afraid, for the LORD your God is with you.”

Step 7: Pray. Confirm

Well, friends, today, I am going to get straight to prayer on this instruction and protection over the day ahead.

Father God, let me not be distracted by things you have not spoken. Instead, keep my focus on what proceeds from your mouth. Help me keep any and all my commitments, big and small, no matter the cost.

I will give all you ask for since everything I have is yours anyway. Help me to see you in all things and situations, and let me know that through prayer, I am protected by the precious blood of Jesus to carry out your will until the day of Jesus.

I thank you for sending your son to die for my sins as an ultimate example of sacrificial love. Let me focus on that and that alone today! For that is the model of your commitment and love, which delivers on your promise to keep me safe with you. It is a greater love than I could ever imagine.

I seal this prayer with the blood of your precious son, Jesus. Thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to guide me today - Amen!

Step 8: Share. Testify

If you workshopped any of the verses mentioned above using the 8-Step Prayer Practice, we would love to hear from you in the comments below about what the Holy Spirit showed or spoke to you today.

Remember to spread hope and share your miracle or testimony HERE. We want to see how God is working in your life!

Conclusion:

Stay obedient and keep your commitments.

Whatever the cost, keep your vow and your oath to do what your Heavenly Father tells you today.

If you give unto him, he will give unto you.

Stay strong out there today, friends! Arm yourself with the whole armor of God, as it states in Ephesians 6:10-18!

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
