John 7:39 - 24/7 Holy Spirit

Step 1: Pray. Select.

This morning, the Holy Spirit had a precious gift for me that he wanted me to share.

I quickly dove into John 7 and came across the good news that we live in post-resurrection times and have full access to the Holy Spirit 24/7.

It was a beautiful reminder, and I couldn’t wait to dive into my practice today!

Step 2: Write. Read. Circle

John 7:39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

After reading the scripture three times, the following words stood out amongst the others:

  • He Spoke

  • Those Believing

  • Would Receive

  • Jesus

  • Glorified

Step 3: Re-Write

With a focus on the words that stood out, here is the personalized sentence placed upon my heart. Don’t forget, if you are doing this alongside me today, to add your name to your unique sentence:

  • Jennifer, he spoke, those believing would receive Jesus glorified.

Step 4: Visualize

The Holy Spirit wants me to focus on the fact that because we live in a time after the resurrection of Jesus, we have full authority and access to the Holy Spirit at all times. There is no training, no work, no requirements to access him. It is a gift given to us freely as I breathe each breath and as real as anything I experience in the flesh.

Imagine receiving a perfectly wrapped gift with creased wrapping paper and a perfectly made bow on top. What do you instinctively do when someone hands it to you and commands you to open it? If you are anything like me, you look at it and eagerly find a way to untie the ribbon, cut it, or rip off the paper to access what is inside with excitement. There isn’t much thought, just instinct.

In my personal sentence from the previous step, or Step 3, “those believing would receive Jesus glorified,” it is clear that if we believe, we will receive. And since we can do all things through Christ Jesus and glorify Him by acknowledging the crucifixion and his resurrection, we have direct access right now to what lay inside all of us - the Holy Spirit.

So what are you waiting for?! Grab your gift and start using it. He has something uniquely wrapped waiting just for you to take hold of!

I moved to Step 5 since I had a question.

Step 5: Ask. Seek

The words that came to mind were:

  • Holy Spirit, what causes us to start to put up false walls when you are always accessible inside us with infinite wisdom?

Step 6: Hear. Write. Receive

Here is the answer I received:

“Unfortunately, from a very early age, the voices of the fleshly world become louder than your Father’s. Flesh is unkind. Think of your soul as a perfect bubble, and then rocks keep getting thrown at its exterior, denting it and morphing it, until one day it breaks open. You have to stop defending yourself, putting up your man-made barriers to allow yourself to hear the voice of your Father, which can only break through once you are broken, setting you free. You think, ‘Why didn’t I break through sooner to avoid pain?’ Each to his measure. Jesus’ words are your Father’s words. If you believe and glorify Jesus, at any time, your Father will break through to come and save you from yourself. Once you are completely exposed with no exterior to protect you, only then will you allow your Father to cloak you so you finally look like where you come from, which is a glorious kingdom. It is a conscious choice and a huge effort to live amongst wolves and not become a wolf yourself. But once you become royalty and understand who you belong to, it is impossible to go back. You must walk out Job’s story until the day of Jesus. You must learn to claim and glorify the Father through all situations to unlock the wonders and wisdom of the Holy Spirit, which has already descended upon you. So unwrap yourself and open the gift of coming to yourself as Jesus did. Be fearless, giving full access and control to the Holy Spirit, the greatest gift you could ever give back to your giver.”

Step 7: Pray. Confirm

Heavenly Father, help me shed anything that causes division between you and me. Help me go forward and be exposed in any situation, claiming who I come in the authority of, which is my LORD and SAVIOR, Jesus. Let me allow you to protect me from the world so I can shed my covering of the flesh and walk naked, trusting you will cloak me in royalty in every situation. Let me trust you will rise up on my behalf, as you did in the story of the woman who got caught in adultery, as I am not perfect and will sin, but you will remind anyone who persecutes me, ‘he who has not sinned cast the first stone.’

I am more than a conqueror. When you call, let me answer not by “Why me?” but instead by “Why not me!”

I seal this prayer with the precious blood of Jesus - Amen!

Step 8: Share. Testify

If you workshopped any of the verses mentioned above using the 8-Step Prayer Practice, we would love to hear from you in the comments below about what the Holy Spirit showed or spoke to you today.

Conclusion:

Friends, help us know that there is no division between us and Christ, who lives inside us. We have full access to the Holy Spirit at all times since we acknowledge and glorify the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

Help us have the confidence to drop any hindrances of the flesh to fully expose ourselves and boldly go forward into who God called us to be.

Remember that we are conquerers and royalty and belong to the highest God.

Go forward encouraged today, friends! See you soon!
