Revelation 3:8 - He Is Knocking

Step 1: Pray. Select.

This morning, quite a few thoughts buzzed through my mind regarding new opportunities and choosing the right path to take.

I feel excited about the future ahead, but want to remain in a follower position behind Jesus. Whichever way I go, I must stay aligned with God’s will.

As the words “open door” came to mind, the Holy Spirit led me to the Book of Revelation, Chapter 3, verse 8.

This is where we will begin our journey today, friends.

Step 2: Write. Read. Circle

Revelation 3:8 “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.”

After reading the scripture three times, the following words stood out amongst the others:

  • I Know

  • An Open Door

  • For You

Step 3: Re-Write

With a focus on the words that stood out, here is the personalized sentence that came alive. It is simple and sweet. Don’t forget, if you are doing this alongside me today, to add your name to your unique sentence:

  • Jennifer, I know an open door for you.

Step 4: Visualize

I began to visualize walking in a large field of freshly cut, manicured green grass. It is almost as if I am on the lawn or property of an extravagant mansion, like Versaille or something exquisite in nature, but I cannot see the actual mansion or home.

As I continue to walk horizontally across the vast landscape, I notice the land is also filled with various mazes. The kind of mazes created from walls of plants that have been shaped and manicured, grown high, and trimmed to perfection.

As I continued to cross the lawn, I noticed that each maze had a large wooden door at the entrance that was closed. Hanging at eye level on each door is a robust round door knocker. The key element the Holy Spirit wants me to focus on is that the doors are closed. I stare at them as I pass by, wondering which one I should open. Surely, it must be one of them; otherwise, why would he show them to me?

As I stand there wondering why I don’t see which one to open, the Holy Spirit whispers to me to remind me of my sentence, “I see an open door for you.”

I realize I am not seeing what God sees. At least not yet.

If I move forward with opening any of these doors by my own will, it could lead to a maze in which I might get lost forever. But what if the door God has is inside the maze? What then?

I paused where I was for a moment and continued to contemplate where this open door was, waiting and already open. Just then, the Holy Spirit asked me to turn to the side and look amongst the trees. The trees were tall, like giants made of sticks with no leaves. They looked burnt and dead. Nothing like the lush lawn with the very prominent mazes and doors to choose from. I adjusted my trajectory and walked toward the tree line.

Holy Spirit then leads me a little further into the chapter, to Revelation 3:20:

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him, and he with me.

I am now standing at the tree line where the lawn ends. I am about to enter the forest. As I stand there, I look deeper into the grey dead area ahead and notice a flicker of light in the distance. It is from a candle on top of a table set for two.

The Holy Spirit wants me to stop here today. He does not want me to cross over. The message is this; sometimes when we see a dead place, we think there is nothing to resurrect. He wants me to focus on how this door God speaks of is opened. In order to walk through this open door or space, I had to follow the voice of Jesus calling me to direct me to this place where there were no physical barriers, like the ones I envisioned from my limited knowledge of doors I had seen along the way. He is telling me while I thought He had to open a physical door, he has been calling to me, knocking, from the inside, waiting for me to let him in.

Step 5: Ask. Seek

The words that came to mind were:

  • Holy Spirit, please show me the places closed off to Jesus inside me - I want to give everything to him.

Step 6: Hear. Write. Receive

Here is the answer I received:

“If anything confuses you, causes uncertainty, or divides you internally, you must leave it outside this door. As you are now aware of what to listen for, which in turn allows you to look for something, make sure you send these things that block you from your Father to the feet of Jesus so they do not return to this place. Be slow to speak and quick to listen, and let the voice of the Holy Spirit guide your nature. There is something the LORD wants to resurrect in you that you will need for your journey ahead. Now that you will hear and listen to his word without ceasing, go forward and unlock with the key of David, never looking back and without hesitation forever more.”

Step 7: Pray. Confirm

Holy Spirit, please help me turn away from the things I focused on before and reach for the voice of Jesus even in dead places if that is where I am called ahead. For he will always have a place for us to dine together and enjoy our fellowship.

Make my ears attuned to your voice to ensure I am in a forest and not in a maze. Change me forever, and help me resurrect whatever God has put inside me to share and testify until the day of Jesus.

I seal this with the precious blood of your son Jesus - Amen!

Step 8: Share. Testify

If you workshopped any of the verses mentioned above using the 8-Step Prayer Practice, we would love to hear from you in the comments below about what the Holy Spirit showed or spoke to you today.

Remember to spread hope and share your miracle or testimony HERE. We want to see how God is working in your life!

Conclusion:

I am speechless at the revelation that he has been knocking and waiting for me, not the other way around.

Friends, let's bring the door with us wherever we go, staying attuned to the knocking from within so we can let Jesus inside anytime, anywhere.

I cannot wait to dine with him continually and soak up his wisdom daily going forward.

I am excited to be this close to resurrecting something he already put inside me that I may not have been aware of in the past.

Go forward today, friends. Be encouraged and know that you do not have to seek the doors; Jesus is with you, knocking every step of the way.
