Romans 5:3-5 - Unrelenting Faith
Step 1: Pray. Select.
In my prayer time today, I was inspired by my husband’s time with the LORD to examine tenacity and perseverance. Through the Holy Spirit and my husband's wisdom, I felt a pull to lean more on my faith as my daily bread today rather than the reality of my current circumstances. And let me tell you, lately, my reality has been met with plenty of opposition.
As I dove into some relevant scriptures on the topics of tenacity and perseverance, I came across Romans 5:3-5.
Let’s begin our journey, friends!
Step 2: Write. Read. Circle
Romans 5:3-5 - And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
After reading the scripture three times, the following words stood out amongst the others:
Glory
Knowing
Tribulation Produces Perseverance
Character, And
Hope
Poured
By The Holy Spirit
Given To Us
Step 3: Re-Write
With a focus on the words that stood out, here is the personalized sentence that came alive in my heart. Don't forget, if you are doing this alongside me today, make sure to add your name to your unique sentence:
Jennifer, glory knowing tribulation produces perseverance, character, and hope, poured by the Holy Spirit given to us.
Step 4: Visualize
As I close my eyes and meditate on the words the Holy Spirit has gifted me today, I see Jesus in a magnificent robe. He is walking in front of me, and his back is turned to me. I am looking up at him, and judging from the angle, I am lying flat on the floor. I am pulling at his robe and am reminded of the woman with the issue of blood. I am crying both out of exhaustion and exuberance. I have reached him.
Even though I hold on tight, waiting to be dragged if I must, I will not let go by any means. Even though I am physically touching his train, a small part of me fears he might not heal me. This is where I differ from the woman with unrelenting faith.
I have so many unmet needs at this point in life; what if this doesn’t work!? I don’t like the state of mind I am in, but I have traveled so far for this meeting, and I will see this through. I feel heavy and labored, but in this moment, to be close to Jesus would be enough, right? It would be enough to get this far and be close to the miracle or almost get the breakthrough. Who am I to ask for more? I mean, look at how many people pull on Jesus daily. Wrong! I need this healing!
I need to birth the thing in my life He has placed on my heart, and I am determined to see it through. I need Jesus to strengthen and heal me to endure the long race. I need him more than ever!
As I take in this moment, the Holy Spirit asks me to examine this encounter and go deeper to heal my whole body once and for all. He wants the balance of the mind, body, and spirit.
I have an urgent question, so I move straight to Step 5.
Step 5: Ask. Seek
The question that came to mind is:
Holy Spirit, can you show me where I am blind to wholly healing?
Step 6: Hear. Write. Receive
What happened next was different from previous times in my prayer practice. The Holy Spirit put a burning desire in my heart to begin praising God out loud, as the Seraphim did in Isaiah 6:3, saying, "Holy, Holy, Holy!" I said it repeatedly with every breath, and something miraculous began to happen.
I pictured the angels blessing my lips, just like Isaiah, to cleanse his language and words. I steadily continued to praise God with my mouth and then had an epiphany.
I have been focused on looking back to see if painful things would return or reoccur even when I have already been healed. It is as if I was trying to protect myself from falling into old patterns or beliefs instead of confidently and faithfully moving forward, looking for my healing or my miracle.
Holy Spirit tells me, “There is a reason I have given you the words to repeat after Jesus, “Get behind me, Satan!” If you keep living life waiting for the other shoe to drop at any moment, you are focused on the past and living in what is familiar. God wants you to step into the unfamiliar like Peter walking on water. God wants to do a new thing ahead. Look for it! Watch for it as it springs up!” The Holy Spirit continues, “The woman with the issue of blood was moving on the fact she would without a doubt get to Jesus and be healed. You want to know what this felt like. Do you want to know what it would be like to have Jesus's attention? You will know you have his attention when time stops and everything slows down. There is complete stillness and peace. When he sees you, he feels you. He already has seen everything you are living in the moment. He is infinite, so when you tug on his garment during your prayer time, He meets you exactly where you are. He will call you out so you feel loved because you are loved. There is nothing to prove; he knows you by name. He will call you daughter. He knows how to heal your wounds because he feels everything you feel as any good Father would. He is not too weary to tend to you, especially since you are tending to his teachings; you honor Him and are not ashamed and bring him glory. The more you honor Him, the more he honors you. Step out. Don't be afraid; he has already done the heavy lifting, and you just have to walk it out. Seek Him like never before; look for his footsteps. One by one, through his word, He is the light on your path. ”
Step 7: Pray. Confirm
Today, through my time of praise and prayer, I feel clear about letting go and looking for the good things the LORD has ahead. I will reach out to my prayer partners to stand in agreement with me as I go forward with unrelenting faith toward healing and freedom through Jesus. I will touch His robe and expect amazing things!
