Numbers 13:33 - Words Bigger Than Giants
Step 1: Pray. Select.
Today, I woke up with an unexpected word playing in my mind: "Giants."
I began researching the areas where giants are mentioned in the Bible. I came across the Book of Numbers, specifically chapter 13. The Holy Spirit instructed me to focus on this today. I have no idea where my prayer time will lead today, but I am excited to find out. Let's go!
Step 2: Write. Read. Circle
Numbers 13:33 - And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
After reading the scripture three times, the following words stood out amongst the others:
We Saw Giants
We Were In Our Own Sight Grasshoppers
And So In Their Sight
Step 3: Re-Write
With a focus on the words that stood out, here is the personalized sentence placed upon my heart. Don't forget, if you are doing this alongside me today, to add your name to your unique sentence:
Jennifer, we saw giants; we were in our own sight grasshoppers, and so, in their sight.
Step 4: Visualize
As I meditate on this verse and my personalized sentence, I feel the Holy Spirit offering a completely new perspective. It is as if I am suddenly awake and reading this verse for the very first time. Don't get me wrong; I have read this verse in the past, but the Holy Spirit speaks to me today from a shift in understanding.
Moses sent this select group of men to scout or spy on the land God claimed was theirs by his word and command. The LORD confirmed what was rightfully theirs, and Moses told the men that no matter what they saw or found, they would be able to possess the land and overcome any obstacles.
This morning, the Holy Spirit wants me to focus on a particular phrase: "We were grasshoppers in our own sight."
When the men went out, they returned with an evil report. They were afraid of what they saw and came back, viewing themselves as small, which is not what the LORD viewed them as.
They looked at it from their perspective—not the LORD's perspective. The LORD commanded, and with the LORD by their side, fighting on their behalf, they were, in turn, larger than any giant they saw.
This took me back to the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The snake deceived Eve; after she saw the apple with her eye gates, she became tempted, and the enemy lied to her and said, "You will not certainly die," the serpent said to the woman. "For God knows that when you eat from it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
Friends, the Holy Spirit tells me we must not believe what we see if it contradicts God's word. This includes any prophetic dreamers out there. Protect those visions in the night by reading scripture before you fall asleep (if you need a recommendation, read Psalms 121 **1-2 min read). The Holy Spirit wants us to know we are in a crucial time to stand up and claim the promises of God, to take back the land flowing with milk and honey. He is not asking but telling or commanding us as he did with Moses.
There is nothing to be afraid of. Protect your eyegates so the enemy stops meddling in God's amazing plans for your life.
I am starting to understand how important it is to truly let His word land and root into our hearts. When we to much emphasis on watching for things to manifest in front of our eyes instead of taking time to hear our Father's voice, we run the risk of being disobedient based on what we see in a day. Believe what God says. He is clear and knows the plans He has for you!
Today, pay special attention to how many times you see something that evokes negative self-talk. By doing so, we leave a door open for the enemy to deceive us into thinking we are less than all we are created to be. And remember, if God is with us, who can be against us!
I have my question for the Holy Spirit. So, I continue to Step 5.
Step 5: Ask. Seek
The words that came to mind were:
Holy Spirit, I want to hear before I see, but what do I do when I see something and notice the negative voices start to play inside my mind?
Step 6: Hear. Write. Receive
Here is the answer I received:
"You cannot stop certain things the enemy puts in your path. The world you live in is flawed. So if you see something that causes you to feel less than, which comes from the spirit of comparison, feel fear from the spirit of death, or something makes you feel ashamed, rejected, worthless, confused, doubtful, and the list goes on with all sorts of negative meddling spirits, the voice that follows what you saw that evoked the feeling, is not the voice of your Father. It is not set in your path by God. So if you take the lie and fill it with the truth, there is nothing in the world your Father doesn't know about and has not provided the weapon against. Take His word, search the scriptures, and find the antonym or antidote to the venom the enemy had spewed. Overtake the negative report, making it positive, working all things together for the good of those who love Him, instead of ruminating so the snake can twist and turn, wrapping around and strangling your mind. Let the word slice off the head of the snake so it is finished and can never speak again. If you see a challenge or obstacle and God has set it before you to strengthen your walk or prepare you for a blessing, you can go to Him, and he will see you through. He will always lift you up and instruct you with love; he will never condemn you. You know His voice, so drown out the foreign manacing voices in your life and fill your life with His word. The truth."
Step 7: Pray. Confirm
Heavenly Father, I believe now more than ever you are giving me the tools to go and claim the land. My perception of myself is no longer just me but me and you, together with the Holy Spirit inside me. Nothing bound to the earth can hold me down as long as I believe your words and go where you command I am covered by you and larger than any giant.
Let me bring you anything that stands in my way so you can show me which weapon and word to use to combat the enemy's lies. You have already dealt with these things through Christ Jesus.
Let me go boldly into places you call me, and let me be strong and courageous like Moses and Joshua. From this day forward, help me run to your word instead of running from the enemy.
I believe you and what you say. I believe in your truth and refuse to let the enemy's lies dim my light and cover me with darkness and defeat. If you have called me, then you are with me, and in that alone, I am larger than any giant on this earth. He that is in me is greater than he who is in the world! I seal this prayer with the precious blood of Jesus - Amen!
